Stop smoking in cars

What happens in life when you have a choice taken away from you and someone else is in control? How do you feel? I am sure that your emotions are running high at that point and you want to scream or shout at them. Well, what happens if that person we are talking about is a child? And you are the one in control, as the parent, yet the child has no say, on your habit of smoking in the car?

I am not condemning anyone for smoking, it is personal choice and in my role as health educator, it is one that is that, to educate smokers how to become smoke free and in that, not just swapping e cigs for cigarettes, but really kicking the habit.

We all get in the car, children in the back, and then we open the window and smoke. Even after that cigarette is extinguished, the tar residue remains, clinging to everything a child touches and as children put their fingers in their mouths all the time as quick as a puff of smoke. Then they get a second ingestion of nicotine.

As you can see from the graphic, we are talking about things we wouldn’t put in our cupboards for our children to get hold of, yet we do it every time we light a cigarette, pretty scary stuff?
